Elated to work with GB Junior Athlete – Owain Lloyd-Hughes
I recently had the opportunity to work with the super talented and incredibly inspiring Junior Great British Athlete; Owain Lloyd-Hughes from Ystradgynlais, South Wales. Owain, who has been a sportsman for most of his life (originally thriving in Rugby), took the plunge to move over to athletics in 2017 and has not looked back since. Having the opportunity to capture such talent through the lens was so exciting. Allowing me to bind my love for sport with my other loveā¦ portrait photography!
The brief of the photoshoot was to get some professional, striking sports portrait shots which would not only commemorate Owainās entrance into the Junior GB Team, but also set him apart from āthe restā. I travelled to Ystradgynlais, with my portable studio and newly purchased black backdrop to photograph him.
Upon meeting Owain I could see that he was incredibly humble by nature, and was actually relatively introverted (despite any preconceptions that you may have before meeting a sports-star). In order to get the best photographs of him, allow him to shine in the (well deserved) spotlight and feel confident in front of the camera, I continually engaged with him even whilst I was behind the lens and injected some fun, creativity and energy into our photoshoot to enable him to feel fully comfortable with me taking his photos.
The final results and feedback from our photoshoot could not have been better. Both Owain, his family and myself are absolutely thrilled with the shots we captured and I hope you agree. To learn/read/support Owainās journey, please head here:
And I hope you leave here feeling (nothing other than) inspiredā¦ I know I certainly was!

Here are some lovely words from Owainās father Andrew Lloyd-Hughes:
āDakes is amazing. What a photographer. We hired her to take some stylish and atmospheric sport portrait shots. The results were stunning, so lovely to deal with too. Thank you so much Dakes, so glad we found you!ā
